Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus…
Philippians 2:5 (NKJV)
Lucifer’s pride was his downfall. He later infected Adam and Eve with the pride virus. That is why genuine humility is foreign to the human heart.
Because of arrogance, we despise and hurt other people with words and deeds yet refuse to apologize. When egotism controls us, we do not admit weakness or seek help from others. We think we are self-sufficient.
Humbling Lessons in the School of Christ
Unless Jesus intervenes, an arrogant person has no hope of character transformation. To overcome pride, we must enroll in the Christ’s School of Humility.
The mission of the school is in the Master Teacher’s invitation: “…learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Matthew 11:29).
The school’s motto is, “God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.” (James 4:6). Its vision is, “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.” (Matthew 5:5).
God Gives Grace to the Humble
The twelve apostles attended this school but Judas did not graduate. Jesus also taught Paul through personal revelations. As a graduate, Paul urges us, “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus…” (Philippians 2:5)
In verses 6-11, Paul describes how Jesus humbled Himself by leaving heaven to come to earth and die for us. Although He is God, Christ allowed Himself to be humiliated by the same people He came to save.
This attitude of humility is what Paul tells us to emulate in Jesus. In this school, we normalize surrendering to God. We learn to be servants, not masters. Gradually, Jesus inculcates humility in us.
Enroll in this school because it will prepare you for heaven.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, teach to be humble like You.
Wow, great revelation…
May God continue humbling me with His doings.
He will, Joseph. God bless you.
He scatters the proud and uplifts the lowly and the humble. Yet, Jesus’ school still exist. I will come to you Jesus Christ; and learn from you for you are gentle and lowly in heart; and I will find rest. Thanks be to God.
Amen, Danvas. At the feet of Jesus, we learn humility.
May God teach me to be humble and dependent on Him.
Exactly, Doc. We must learn from Him for us to live with Him eternally.
‘Humble yourself before the Lord, He will lift you up’
Indeed He will, Hans. God bless you, young man.
