A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.
Proverbs 16:9 (NKJV)
We frequently feel as though we must go through life alone. Feeling in control, we make plans, set goals, and go on with our dreams. However, our key text reminds us of a fundamental reality: the Lord ultimately determines how we should proceed even when we feel our plans are error-free.
The Lord Directs His Steps
We need to surrender our ideas to God, believing that He is aware of what is best for us. Even though we may have well-thought-out plans and decent intentions, God’s wisdom is far greater than our own. He occasionally leads us to something bigger than we could have imagined.
Consider Joseph from the Bible. He had aspirations of greatness, but before he ultimately entered God’s plan for his life, he had to endure betrayal, slavery, and incarceration. Even though his course appeared unclear, God was guiding each step toward a bigger goal.
Why You Should Give God Control
We must learn as believers to let go of our plans and let God lead us in accordance with His desire. We can rest easy knowing that God is in control even when unanticipated obstacles appear. We are able to trust His love even if we do not understand His ways.
Have you given God control over your plans? Will you have faith in Him even if things don’t go as planned? Rest certain that God is guiding your path, regardless of where you are right now. He will guide you into His ideal will if you trust Him.
Prayer
Father in heaven, I give You control over my life. I know You will guide me in the right direction, and I have faith that Your methods are superior to mine.
