Why You Should Not Discriminate Against Others

Daily Devotional – Wednesday, October 20, 2021

Have we not all one Father? Has not one God created us?
Malachi 2:10 (NKJV)

Everyone in my village knew about Philemon (not his real name) even though he was dead. This man had left behind a big family. His children, grandchildren and great grandchildren lived in one homestead.

Family members were very protective of one another. As long as one bore the name of the patriarch, he or she was loved and protected equally.

During holidays, other members of Philemon’s family would come home and the homestead would be full of joy. Whether poor or rich, educated or illiterate, any family members was received back home warmly.

Prophet Malachi reminds me of Philemon’s family when he asks, “Have we not all one Father? Has not one God created us? Why do we deal treacherously with one another by profaning the covenant of the fathers?” (Malachi 2:10).

Like Philemon’s family, we belong to one Father, our Creator. God does not discriminate His children. According to Paul, “…there is no partiality with God.” (Romans 2:11). On his part, Solomon says, “The rich and the poor have this in common; the LORD is the maker of them all.” (Proverbs 22:2).

It is against the will of our Father for His children to discriminate on one another based on race, ethnicity, disability, economic classes and social classes, or any other parameter. If God does not play favourites, why should we?

Today, reach out and demonstrate love and kindness to a child of God you do not normally associate with.

Almighty Father, thank You for giving me siblings of all colours, languages and religious convictions. Show me how to love them as You want me to.
