Why You Should Not Remain Silent

Daily Devotional – Sunday, August 29, 2021

Then they said to one another, “We are not doing right. This day is a day of good news, and we remain silent.

2 Kings 7:9 (NKJV)

In Second Kings 6–7, the Syrian army had surrounded Samaria, hoping to penetrate the city’s walls and plunder it. Inside Samaria, people were starving. Some of the residents had even started killing and eating their own children.

Meanwhile, four hungry lepers were discussing their fate outside the city’s wall. If they went into the city, they would probably die of hunger. If they went into the Syrian army camp, they risked death but could get food. They opted for the latter.

What they found in the camp surprised them. There was no human being in sight. God had caused the Syrian army to flee and leave food and property behind. The leprous men feasted and carried some valuables with them.

In the midst of their celebration, they came to their senses and asked themselves, “We are not doing right. This day is a day of good news, and we remain silent. (2 Kings 7:9).

They decided, “Come, let us go and tell the king’s household.” 2 Kings 7:9. Every child of God is a member of the king’s household. If you love them, you will share the gospel with them.

You cannot experience the saving grace of Jesus Christ and remain silent. This is not the time to keep quiet. People need to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ. Find a way to ‘sell’ Jesus to another person today.

What steps will you take today to reach another person who needs salvation?

Lord Jesus, show me a person that I can reach with Your gospel today.
