Why You Should Not Worry

Daily Devotional – Sunday, May 29, 2022
The LORD is my shepherd. I shall not want.
Psalms 23:1 (NKJV)

Living among pastoralists made me appreciate the close relationship between shepherds and their animals. In the morning, the herder would lead the animals to the pasture and repeat the ritual in the evening.

He would also carry newly born or injured animals in his arms or on his shoulders. If night fell while the animals were far from home, shepherds would hedge in the animals with thorns, light a fire and take turns to watch against predators.

The Lord is My Shepherd

avid, a shepherd of no mean achievement himself, likened the relationship between a shepherd and his sheep to the bond between God and His people. He wrote, “The LORD is my shepherd. I shall not want.” (Psalms 23:1).

Just as the sheep depend on the shepherd for guidance and leadership and, so should we rely on God fully. He knows where to find green pasture and cool waters. God leads us safely through our toughest situations and experiences.

The results of submitting our worries and cares to the Lord is peace and contentment. Even our enemies will notice that we serve a caring and loving God.

Why Do You Worry?

As long as we are with our Good Shepherd, we need not worry about tomorrow. The only danger we should watch out for is being separated from Jesus because the evil one roams around like a lion seeking sheep to devour.

If animals can trust a human being fully, why should we find it difficult to trust our Omniscient, Omnipresent and Almighty God? If we have tasted and known God’s goodness, should we worry the way we do when things go wrong?

Prayer
Thank You Jesus, because I can trust You fully as my Shepherd.
