Why You Should Practise Shameless Audacity

Daily Devotional – Thursday, August 28, 2023
I tell you, even though he will not get up and give you the bread because of friendship, yet because of your shameless audacity, he will surely get up and give you as much as you need.
Luke 11:8 (NKJV)

In life, there are moments when you should practice shameless audacity. For example, when you are in dire need of something in the dead of the night, you require loads of persistence. Christ depicts such a scenario in the Story of the Friend at Midnight.

Because of His Persistence

Here is the Master Teacher’s verbatim statement:
Suppose you have a friend, and you go to him at midnight and say, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread; a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have no food to offer him.’ And suppose the one inside answers, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is already locked, and my children and I are in bed. I can’t get up and give you anything.’ I tell you, even though he will not get up and give you the bread because of friendship, yet because of your shameless audacity, he will surely get up and give you as much as you need.” (Luke 11:5-8).

Ask, Seek and Knock

The person in need will not leave until his request is granted. There is no way he is going to let his visitor sleep on an empty stomach. The benefactor realizes that the supplicant will not relent. The former gets out of bed, grabs as many loaves as possible, opens the door, and gives the asker the bread. The boldness and persistence of the petitioner open the door to fortune.

What is the gist of this story? Jesus says, “So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” (Luke 11:9-10). Jesus wants us to exercise unabashed fearlessness when we come before Him with our petitions.

Why You Should Practise Shameless Audacity

God often does not answer our prayers in the time and manner we want. He desires that we learn to ask, seek, and knock, depending on the nature of our requests. Persistence in prayer is a trait we need to cultivate. We demonstrate blatant bravery when we keep pleading with God even when the doors of heaven appear closed.

Today, if you feel as if you are disturbing and embarrassing God with your persistent petitions, keep praying. If people around you consider you weird because of your unrelenting faith against all odds, stay on your knees. Eventually, the man who practises shameless audacity benefits from the generous promises of God.

Prayer
Dear God, I will persist with my shameless audacity until You grant my request.
