Why You Should Praise God Before Your Prayers are Answered

Daily Devotional – Wednesday, June 29, 2022
Now when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated.
2 Chronicles 20:22 (NKJV)

When enemy armies surrounded Judah, King Jehoshaphat was distressed. He called on all Jews to fast and pray for God’s intervention. To encourage the distressed nation, God sent a message through Prophet Jahaziel:

You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the LORD, who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem! Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the LORD is with you.” (2 Chronicles 20 17).

When they Began to Sing and Praise

King Jehoshaphat consulted the people and came up with an unconventional war strategy. “He appointed those who should sing to the LORD, and who should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army.” (Verse 21).

Now that God would give them victory, why not celebrate in advance? Because God does not lie, “…when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated.” (Verse 22).

Praising God Before Prayers are Answered

Like Jehoshaphat, we face challenges every day. The Lord urges us not to worry because He has won our battles even before we venture out. The best response to God’s promise is to go out about your work and business with praise and thanksgiving.

Jesus promised, “… whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.” (Mark 11:24). Once you present your petitions before God, start praising and thanking Him as you continue working and waiting for the physical revelation of your requests.

Prayer
God, I thank and praise You for the victory You have secured for me today.
