Why You Should Rearrange Your Priorities

You shall have no other gods before Me.
Exodus 20:3 (NKJV)

The first commandment is a call to rearrange our life priorities. It states, “You shall have no other gods before Me.” It serves as a reminder that only He is deserving of our worship, a proclamation of His supremacy, and an exhortation to unwavering commitment.

No Other Gods Before Me

Idols are more than just fake gods or carved figures in a society full of diversions. Anything—wealth, accomplishment, connections, amusement, or even our personal desires—that becomes more important than God in our lives has the potential to become an idol. We are denying God priority in our lives when we set these things before Him.

God wants an exclusive connection with us. He demands that we give ourselves entirely to Him because He does not tolerate partial devotion. Everything in our life finds its rightful place when we put our love for Him first.

Why You Should Rearrange Your Priorities

Consider for a moment why God would give such a commandment. You see, life, happiness, and fulfillment are denied by everything that prevents you from having access to God. You will suffer pain now and be damned for eternity if the things and people you love cause you to lose sight of God.

What is hindering you from being totally devoted to God? How can you rearrange your priorities such that God is at the top? What can you do today to strengthen your bond with Him? Put God first in your life and believe that everything else will fall into place according to His perfect plan.

Prayer
Almighty God, reveal to me anything in my life that hinders our relationship. Help me rearrange my priorities so that You may always be first.
