Will You Celebrate Christmas?

Daily Devotional – Monday, December 25, 2023
I am coming quickly
Revelation 22:12 (NKJV)

Will you celebrate Christmas this year? The debate as to whether Jesus was born on December 25 will never go away. However, no Christian disputes that Jesus was born. We were not alive more than two thousand years ago, but we acknowledge that He was born in a manger by the Virgin Mary.

Remembering the First Noel

There is no doubt that Christ came to earth at the appointed time, and His mission was to rescue us from the bondage of sin. Jesus was born to die, and through His death, we are saved. The controversy surrounding the exact date Jesus was born cannot obscure these facts.

Christ’s first advent, however, cannot be isolated from His second coming. They are two sides of the same coin. As we contemplate the birth of Immanuel, the visit of the magi, and the announcement of the miraculous birth to shepherds, we must always bear in mind that the upcoming event is equally important.

Behold, I Am Coming Quickly

The Lord Himself told the Apostle John, “And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work.” (Revelation 22:12). Yes, Christ is returning to earth, not as a tiny, vulnerable baby in a manger but as a mighty King and Judge. He will come back, not to save human beings but to judge them.

The Second Advent will put an end to sin and life on this sin-stained earth. The return of Jesus will pave the way for the recreation of the earth to be like God had designed it at creation. In the earth made new, there will be no sickness, death, or sorrow. It will be the perfect home for the redeemed.

Will You Celebrate Christmas?

Irrespective of whether you will celebrate Christmas or not and how you commemorate it, if you do, remember that Jesus is coming back. God has not revealed the date for this momentous event, but we can start celebrating it now. Christ is returning soon. Start preparing for your homecoming party.

Prayer
Dear Jesus, may the joy of Your first coming always remind me to prepare for Your second Advent.
