Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
1 Corinthians 15:58 (NKJV)
As a religious content creator, I have to contend with the fact that religious content is not as popular as gossip, entertainment, sports, and news. On some days, the number of people who read my devotionals is quite low. On such occasions, I feel like giving up.
You Are Not Wasting Your Efforts
The church arena is not different. You have to keep working for God and preaching the gospel, even if people are not responsive. Church growth may decline despite your best efforts. Because you cannot see instant results, you can become discouraged and easily give up.
A few weeks ago, I posted a devotional, as usual, in a church WhatsApp group. One of the members commented, “You will only realize the impact of your devotionals in eternity.” Previously, another reader had called me and insisted that I continue posting my devotionals on another WhatsApp group wall without fail.
God Knows Your Labor
That is why I identify with Paul’s when he states, “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” (1 Corinthians 15:58).
The apostle knew that the Christians in Corinth, especially those who worked in the Lord’s vineyard, were likely to be discouraged if they did not see the immediate impacts of their labor. Therefore, he encouraged them to continue working for God because He never forgets our efforts.
Your Labor is Not in Vain
It is possible that you are trying to win a soul for Jesus, but you are not getting immediate results. Perhaps you are a church minister, but you keep encountering hurdles in your work. Take heart. As Paul says, your work is not in vain. Do not be discouraged. Your work for the Lord is not in vain.
Prayer
Dear Lord. Whenever I feel like giving up, remind me that my labor for You is not in vain.
