Where is Your Faith?

Daily Devotional – Sunday, July 30, 2023
But He said to them, “Where is your faith?”
Luke 8:25 (NKJV)

Where is your faith?” Jesus asked his troubled disciples after calming a fierce windstorm. Earlier on, He had directed them to get into a boat and cross to their other side of the lake. Once in the vessel, an apparently exhausted Jesus had fallen asleep.

Don’t You Have Faith?

One would have expected the disciples (a number of them being seasoned fishermen) face the storm with courage. However, when water started flooding the boat, they panicked and cried to the sleeping Jesus, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” (Luke 8:24).

“Then He arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water. And they ceased, and there was a calm. But He said to them, “Where is your faith?”” (Luke 8:24-25). The disciples marveled about this Man who had power over the forces of nature.

Why Do You Panic?

Why did Jesus ask the disciples where their faith was? Well, they had lived with Him for some time now and had seen Him perform miracles. He had demonstrated to them that nothing was impossible to Him. Consequently, Jesus expected His disciples to trust Him fully.

As modern disciples of Jesus, we are as guilty as Peter and company when it comes to trusting Jesus. In many instances, when we encounter difficulties and trials, we panic and start complaining and blaming God. Our fears obscure our faith in Jesus.

Why Do You Doubt

Even when we profess to love and follow Jesus, we do not turn to Him for help when trouble assails us. We struggle on our own and / or enlist the assistance of other human beings only to turn to Jesus when all our efforts have failed to bear fruit.

Christ asks us today, “Have I not demonstrated to you that I am trustworthy? Why do you panic when I am right there with you and I have assured you of My presence and help? Is anything impossible to Me?

Where is Your Faith?

As you face the challenges that life throws at you, build you faith on Jesus. Trust that He has your best interest at heart even when the storms around you suggest otherwise. Whenever you panic because of life’s challenges, hear Jesus asking, “Where is your faith?

Prayer
Lord Jesus, my faith is in You despite the storms raging in my life.
