Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going.
Ecclesiastes 9:10 (NKJV)
What if you came to the end of your life and discovered you never lived? As improbable as this thought may be, there is a high likelihood of leading a mediocre life with no tangible achievement and numerous unfinished projects. When will you start living?
The Power of Concentration
People who find themselves in this unenviable situation are likely to be victims of distractions. The moment we attempt to achieve several goals at the same time, we risk not attaining any of them fully.
On the flip side, when we focus on one or a few important initiatives and work diligently on them, the likelihood of success increases. Think of your efforts as a magnifying glass that lights a fire by harnessing the sun’s rays and focusing them on a singular spot for a significant amount of time.
Whatever Your Hand Finds to do
Another reason for not living meaningfully is indolence. A lazy person does not work wholeheartedly. He must be coerced to work, and he always needs supervision. The laggard is not self-motivated and only works out of necessity. He accomplishes little and arrives at the end of life with regrets for missed opportunities.
To avoid regrets in life, heed Solomon’s counsel: “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going.” (Ecclesiastes 9:10). Concentrating on the task at hand and giving it your best shot is the surest path to a fulfilling life.
When Will You Start Living?
When will you start living? Within the confines of God’s laws, live your current life with vigour and passion. Find something worthwhile and dedicate yourself to achieving your goals. Today, enjoy the life, health, family, friends, society, and natural environment that God gives you, because one day you will die and lose the opportunity to enjoy anything.
Prayer
Almighty God, whatever my hand finds to do today, I will do it with all my might.
