Now therefore, give me this mountain of which the LORD spoke in that day…
Joshua 14:12 (NKJV)
Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, was one of the twelve spies that Moses had sent to spy on the Promised Land. Only Caleb and Joshua returned a positive report, hence inspiring courage and hope in the Israelites. In return, God promised that only the two faithful men would enter Canaan from the original multitude that had left Egypt earlier.
Give Me This Hill Country
Moses further assured Caleb that the land of Hebron would be given to this great warrior and his descendants as an inheritance. Caleb now approached his old friend Joshua, who had taken over the leadership mantle from Moses. Although Caleb was now eighty years old, he was still energetic and ready to fight for his inheritance.
Thus, Caleb told Joshua, “Now therefore, give me this mountain of which the LORD spoke in that day; for you heard in that day how the Anakim were there, and that the cities were great and fortified. It may be that the LORD will be with me, and I shall be able to drive them out as the LORD said.” (Joshua 14:12).
Grant me this Mountain Region
What a courageous man! He knew the land he had inherited was hilly and inhabited by giants. The cities were impregnable, humanly speaking. However, this was his inheritance, and Caleb would fight for it with the help of God. Forty years after the spying expedition (read Numbers 14), this man’s faith was stronger than ever before.
Contemporary Christians need Caleb’s courage, faith, and focus. God has given us precious and powerful promises through which we can become partakers of the character of God. Nevertheless, we must claim these promises by faith and cooperate with God for their fulfillment.
Give Me This Mountain
The mountain belonged to Caleb by right, but he still had to fight for it. It is not enough to know God’s promises. You must ask God, “Give me this mountain,” and then continue to trust and obey Him. God provides rain and sun, but only the person who plants the seed and nurtures it will reap bountifully.
What is your most important petition today? Which Bible promises are you claiming in relation to your prayer? What roles will you play as you cooperate with God to meet your needs? As you ask God for your mountain, start climbing it by faith. God will give you victory in proportion to your practical faith.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, today I claim the mountain You have promised me, even as I continue climbing it.

What’s amazing is the fact that after the LORD’S presence inspired the confidence to move forward and occupy the land.
“God like Caleb,I ask Give me this mountains, I got mountains to climb, aspirations to achieve, lord your presence would be the motivation I need to work my way up,you promised, that you will recompense my work, and a full reward be given you the LORD God of Israel, under whose wings I come to trust Ruth 2:12.,I pray now strengthen my hands lord to work Nehemiah 6:9” Amen.
