I Know My Redeemer Lives

Daily Devotional – Thursday, September 21, 2023
For I know that my Redeemer lives and He shall start at last on earth…
Job 19:25 (NKJV)

In ancient Israel, a creditor would enslave a debtor until the latter paid a debt. That sounds ironic because it is almost impossible for a slave to buy his freedom back through labour. Indeed, to secure freedom for the man in deep debt, another person had to step in—a redeemer.

I Know My Protector is Alive

A redeemer could only be a close relative of the debtor. This kin was rich enough to sacrifice part of his resources to pay the debt and emancipate his relative. Technically, the former slave owed his life and freedom to the Redeemer.

In his moment of grief and distress, Job remembered he had a redeemer. He affirmed, “For I know that my Redeemer lives and He shall stand at last on the earth. And after my skin is destroyed, this I know, that in my flesh I shall see God. Whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not another. How my heart yearns within me!” (Job 19:25-27).

I Know My Vindicator is Alive

Job was not the type to give up easily. He was full of hope. Job knew he was a finite and frail human being, though he did not understand what was going on in his life. His only hope was in God, his Redeemer. Only the Almighty would pay the price of sin for Job and set His servant free. Job was confident that He would see God in a brand new body.

When sin threatens to drown you and you cannot see the way out, do not forget that your Redeemer died to save you from sin and lives to support you in your heavenly journey. He who purchased you with His precious blood will not let you drown in sin. If you surrender, to Him, Jesus will fight for you.

I Know My Redeemer Lives

If you are going through tough times in your life, family, job, finances, health, and so on, remember you have a Redeemer. You are not alone. Like Job, you can be sure that God never leaves His faithful ones without help. Tell yourself today, “I know my Redeemer lives. He is fighting for me.”

Prayer
My Redeemer, I know that You live. Because You paid the price to emancipate me from sin, I will trust You fully.
