A little leaven leavens the whole lump.
Galatians 5:9 (NKJV)
When a stone lands in a pool of water, wave after wave emerges, gradually pushing towards the edge. The stone thrower probably did not intend to cause the ripples, but that is how nature works. Even the littlest of causes has an effect.
Lack of Restraint
A smoker does not begin his ill-omened adventure with a pack of cigarettes. One puff repeated often breeds an addict. Today’s heroin addict, urged on by a friend, took a snort first and gradually developed an irresistible urge.
The criminal languishing in jail today was once an innocent baby who was loved and adored by family and friends. Nevertheless, as she grew up, she joined a bad friend here and a gang there. One crime led to another, and prison opened its doors.
A Little Leaven Leavens the Whole Lump
The spiritual realm operates under a similar principle. According to Apostle Paul, “A little leaven leavens the whole lump.” (Galatians 5:9). Leaven is the ancient world’s equivalent of yeast or baking soda. To increase the size of your bread, you only need to put a little yeast inside the dough.
The same is true of sin, which Paul is referring to in the verse. The devil does not require an open door to enter your heart. A crack in the wall is enough. All it takes is a simple act of compromising divine principles. The downward spiral will begin, and it will not be easy to stop it.
Why You Must Learn to Say ‘No’!
Well, there is good news! You can stop this trajectory. If you cut off the supply of leaven, the dough will not be affected. The best way to reverse a life of rebellion is to stop sinning. Unless you summon courage and decide to turn your life around, the rot will continue.
Is there a cherished sin in your life? Which habit, if you persist with it, is likely to corrupt your entire life? Learn to say ‘no’, by the grace of God. Determine to get rid of the littlest leaven in your life. Allow the Holy Spirit into your life, and He will gradually get rid of the leaven of sin and renew your life.

Lord Jesus, give me power to stop the infiltration of sin into my life and to begin living for You.
