Allow the Sculptor to Work

Daily Devotional – Monday, October 16, 2023
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works…
Ephesians 2:10 (NKJV)

A television reporter was visiting a facility where sculptors make beautiful artifacts. He started with the quarry and found strong men splitting and sorting all shapes of rocks. He was surprised that no stone appeared to go to waste.

We are His Workmanship

The reporter picked a small stone and asked a sculptor, “You mean even this stone is important to you?”
“Yes. Inside it is a precious bird.” The carver said.
The newsman then pointed at a huge, shapeless, and rugged boulder and asked, “How about this one? What can you make out of it?”
“There is a beautiful giraffe inside that one.” Came the answer.

This beautiful encounter between the reporter and the carver reminded me of God the sculptor and how He regards His raw material. According to Paul, “we are His workmanship; created in Christ Jesus for good works.” (Ephesians 2:10).

The Carver at Work

Now, imagine God as a sculptor. He has many stones of all shapes and sizes to work with. None of the stones in the quarry is a finished product. He picks each stone with love because despite the unattractiveness of the pebble or boulder, the Lord knows there is a precious saint inside.

You are the stone in God’s quarry. There are numerous weaknesses in you but God values what is inside you and what you will become as He continues working on you. Your transformation is a process. If you feel inadequate or people around you make you feel unworthy of God’s love, remember you are God’s ongoing project.

Allow the Sculptor to Work

Do not belittle yourself. Allow not others to depreciate you. Your current situation is not your destination. Today, you may be repugnant but a precious saint is growing inside you. Cooperate with God through reading your Bible and praying. Allow the sculptor to work and see what a beautiful artifact He makes of you.

Prayer
Dear God, thank You because despite my weaknesses, You are working to bring out the best in me.
