Let us know. Let us pursue the knowledge of the LORD.
Hosea 6:3 (NKJV)
Prophet Hosea ministered to a wayward nation and urged its inhabitants to Return to the Lord to avert further suffering. God had wounded His people because of their sin, but He was willing to heal them if they returned to Him in repentance. There was, however, a danger of reverting to the familiar path of sin. The prophet offered a solution.
Hunt After the Knowledge of Jehovah
The prophet counseled his compatriots, “Let us know. Let us pursue the knowledge of the LORD. His going forth is established as the morning. He will come to us like the rain, like the latter and former rain to the earth.” (Hosea 6:3). Only by being zealous to know and do the will of the Lord would the Israelites be truly happy and avert oppression by enemy nations.
Literally, Hosea’s statement means “to hunt after the knowledge of Jehovah.” It implies experiencing God’s presence through personal experience to understand why He pardons vile sinners like us. Such a close relationship will reveal that God is true to His promises, just as the daily cycle and the rain God has created perform their roles without fail.
Pursue the Knowledge of the Lord
If we are to overcome the snares of the devil, we must strive to know God. We need to be deliberate in our pursuit of heavenly knowledge and wisdom because Satan actively seeks to distract and lead us astray. For example, the enemy would have us spend more time watching secular television programs than reading the Bible.
To pursue the knowledge of the Lord means making God your priority, spending time in communion with Him in prayer, Bible study, and meditation, fellowshipping with other believers, and practicing the teachings of the Bible. When you make God the center of your life, He protects you like the apple of His eye and gives you power to overcome sin.
