God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.
Genesis 1:31 (NIV)
According to the Cambridge Dictionary, “icing on the cake‘ means “something that makes a good situation even better.” Literally, the phrase dates back to the 1600s, when it described covering, icing, or frosting a cake with cream and other attractive delicacies at the completion of the process.
Crowning the Baking Process
When baking a cake, the last action is to ice it. It is the crowning work of the baker, and it tends to epitomize what he or she is capable of producing. Cake lovers, especially children, adore the icing, sometimes more than the cake. This part of the cake is sweeter, creamier, and more colourful.
Did you know God had an icing on His creation cake? Notice that after finishing the daily duties He had assigned Himself, He would conclude that the day had been good. If God were a baker, His recipe would be perfect, and he would have all the ingredients. Every time He peeped inside the oven, He would be delighted with how the delicacy was coming up.
It Was Very Good
Now, look at what happened on the sixth day. “God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.” (Genesis 1:31). What had happened on this day? God had ended His work by creating Adam and Eve. After five days of perfect work, the Lord placed the icing on the cake on the sixth day.
While man is fascinated with the wild animals, the seas, the constellations, space, and other marvels of God’s creation, God takes pride in the last bit of the earth’s creation process—man! It is not a wonder, then, that Lucifer devised a plan to hurt God where it mattered most by leading our first parents (the apple of God’s eye) into sin.
The Icing on God’s Creation Cake
Similarly, it comes as no surprise that when we fell into sin, God sent His only begotten Son to die for us so that we might be restored to our preferred position once again. There was no way God was going to let the icing on His creation week be obliterated. That is how important we are to God.
God is immensely concerned with your good. Nothing makes Him happier than to see you happy. While you cannot fully understand His love for you, you can appreciate Him by loving Him back and obeying Him unconditionally. Today, take a moment to appreciate the privilege of being the icing on God’s creation cake.
Prayer
Almighty God, thank You for making me the icing on Your creation cake. Because of this great love, I will, by Your grace, live for You.

Amen! What a reminder of how special we are. Our exalted position in creation is a privilege that’s we should be eternally grateful for..
Psalms 8:5
You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor.
Indeed, Elder. We need to remind ourselves often that we are God’s special possession.
