Set Apart for a Special Purpose

Daily Devotional – Saturday, October 28, 2023
But know that the LORD has set apart for Himself him who is godly.
Psalms 4:3 (NKJV)

In some rural communities, farmers do not use treated seeds. After harvesting, they select the best-developed grains and set them apart for planting in the coming season. To ensure there is continuity and food for the future, the farmer ensures the designated seed is not part of the family’s menu.

God Has Consecrated the Pious

Similarly, to carry out His work on earth, God differentiates some people from the rest. According to the psalmist, “know that the LORD has set apart for Himself him who is godly.” (Psalms 4:3). God has designated the pious for a special purpose the same way the farmer preserves special seed.

We see this principle at work in Christ’s ministry. While he had many disciples, one day He picked twelve, whom he named apostles, and worked with them to establish His church. Being set apart meant having special responsibilities as well as privileges. Because the disciples understood and fulfilled their unique purpose, we are Christians today.

Set Apart for a Special Purpose

Thankfully, we do not have to be apostles to be dedicated to a unique mission. Every follower of Jesus is consecrated for ministry, albeit in varying offices. God has set apart preachers, teachers, musicians, philanthropists, and so on, to call humanity back to the Kingdom of God.

Because God has called you and set you aside, He will provide all you need to carry out your mission on earth. The only way you can compromise your calling is by ceasing to be God-fearing. When you cherish sin, you impede your ability to fully represent God in a world in darkness. You are set apart for a special purpose. Live up to that superior calling.

Prayer
Thank You, God, for calling me and setting me apart. Help me to live in tandem with this high calling.
