Make known His deeds among the peoples!
1 Chronicles 16:8 (NKJV)
One of King David’s greatest desires was to bring the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem. Because this was God’s will, the Lord helped His servant provide an honorable and secure place for the ark. When the ark finally rested in the tabernacle that David had built in Jerusalem, the king and his subjects could not contain their joy.
Make Known His Deeds among the People
As his custom was, David wrote a Thanksgiving song to commemorate the event and handed it over to Asaph, the musician. In this psalm, we find an interesting thread, one that contemporary Christians should learn from. It has to do with how we should deal with good news, especially when God has done great things in our lives.
David proclaims, “Oh, give thanks to the LORD! Call upon His name. Make known His deeds among the people!” (1 Chronicles 16:8) From the onset, the psalmist creates a connection between thanking and praising God for His wondrous deeds and spreading the good news to other people, including those who worship other gods. (See, for example, verse 24.)
Why are You silent?
The good news is meant to be shared. Like David, when God answers our prayers, we should not keep quiet. Our testimony to those who do not know our God could be the means through which they come to know God. When we remember that Jehovah is the only true God and all others are mere idols (verse 26), we will make known the Lord’s deeds to the whole world.
Why are you silent? Have you forgotten how gracious the Lord has been to you? There is a person in your reach who needs just the kind of testimony you bear for him or her to surrender to God. Someone needs to know that there is a God who forgives sins and gives sinners a second chance. A despondent soul somewhere needs to hear that there is hope for today and tomorrow for the children of God. Do not keep quiet. Make some noise for God.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I will no longer be silent. I must know your deeds among those people.
