For this reason, I also suffer these things; nevertheless, I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.
2 Timothy 1:12 (NKJV)
If you intend to trust a person with your valuables, it is advisable to have comprehensive knowledge of the individual. To be on the safe side, you need to conduct background checks on that person. How much more, then, is it important to know the one you intend to trust your life to?
I Know Whom I Have Believed In
One man who had no doubt about whom he trusted was the apostle Paul. Here is a profound statement from his letter to Timothy: “For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless, I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that day.” (2 Timothy 1:12).
Paul preached the gospel with boldness and suffered for the sake of the Lord because he trusted Christ fully. The apostle not only knew Jesus personally, he was sure Jesus was trustworthy. Paul knew that his present suffering could not be compared with the glory that Jesus had reserved for him. Consequently, he was not ashamed to follow Jesus.
Do you know Jesus?
Do you know Jesus personally? Have you done your research on Him to ascertain He is trustworthy? In other words, do you spend time with Him in prayer, Bible study, and meditation to the extent that you can say with Paul that you know whom you have believed in? Are you persuaded that Jesus is returning soon to reward the saints and take them home with Him?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, illuminate my understanding that I may develop unflinching faith in You.
