Daily Devotional – Tuesday, December 5, 2023
I will go before you and make the crooked places straight. I will break in pieces the gates of bronze and cut the bars of iron.
Isaiah 45:2 (NKJV)
One of the best decisions you can make in life is to allow God to go before you. When that happens, you fear nothing, and your victory is assured. That is the message that God reserved for Cyrus, more than a century before the heathen king was born. Some scholars assert that Cyrus in this context means the Messiah, but this does not dilute the message.
I Will Go Before You
God promises Cyrus, ‘I will go before you and make the crooked places straight. I will break in pieces the gates of bronze and cut the bars of iron” (Isaiah 45:2). Cyrus is on a special mission: to subdue nations on behalf of God (read verse 1). This is not an easy task. He will meet with resistance, hence the need for divine support.
This passage depicts God holding Cyrus’ right hand and going before His servants into battle. The imagery is similar to that of a father holding his child’s hand and leading the little one in the path of safety and victory. In both cases, the weaker person relies fully on the stronger one to accomplish a mission.
When God Goes Before You
The secret to living a godly life and achieving God’s purpose for our lives and prosperity, therefore, is allowing God to go before us. This implies prioritizing God and obeying him unquestioningly. It means our plans, projects, intentions, thoughts, words, and actions are aligned with His will.
When God goes before you, you will have a joyful and fulfilling life. He will make the crooked areas of your life straight and carry you over obstacles. God will break every barrier that Satan and human beings have placed in your path. When God is leading you, nothing will be impossible.
Prayer
Dear God, go before me, make the crooked path straight, and overcome the impossible for me.

Amen! when we allow God to go ahead of us, we can be sure to face every obstacle and uncertainties unseen in our paths with courage and confidence. Just like King Cyrus I believe God has ordained a purpose for me and when I allow Him to go before me, He’ll use me mightily to fulfill His purpose for my life. And so, I have the confidence that no matter what journey of uncertainty I may encounter, God is 100 steps further. He’s laying out my path and preparing my steps.
