You will show me the path of life…
Psalms 16:11 (NKJV)
Human beings are fascinated with the afterlife. We want to live beyond our current existence. That is why all major religions have beliefs and teachings on immortality and eternity. Even traditionalists believe in life after death.
Make Known to Me the Way of Life
Different faiths, however, pursue different paths to eternity and immortality. Some believe that they must perform good works to gain divine favour. Others consider martyrdom to be the guaranteed path to paradise.
King David, too, grappled with the issue of the afterlife. Like any other human being, he wanted to live beyond the grave. Therefore, he pleaded with God, saying, “You will show me the path of life.” (Psalms 16:11). David trusted God to offer trusted wisdom on how to attain immortality.
Make Me to Know the Path of Life
It is only the immortal God who can give immortality. Only He can make known to us the path we should take to live eternally. Finite human beings can devise all kinds of theories about the hereafter, but only the knowledge of the Lord God can result in everlasting life.
When we submit ourselves to God, He freely shows us the path to life. We listen to Jesus as He addresses the Father saying, “And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” (John 17:3).
Show Me the Path of Life
The only hope we have after death is found in having an active personal relationship with Jesus. He is the one who guarantees us resurrection when He returns the second time. No amount of good works will earn us eternal life, for without Jesus, there is no eternity. Do you want to live forever? Ask God to show you the path of life.
Prayer
Immortal God, show me the path of life.
