But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.
Hebrews 13:16 (NKJV)
A friend of mine recently celebrated giving blood for the forty-eighth time. Where does he get all that blood? I asked myself jokingly. You could tell from his attitude that he really loved saving lives by sharing his blood. He intimated that he would continue with this act of kindness for as long as God would enable him.
Do Not Forget to Do Good
I believe my friend’s unselfish gesture has saved many lives, even if he never knows most of those he helps with his blood. There must be a mother somewhere whose child is alive because it was infused with my buddy’s blood. Many people who should be dead today are probably alive because of a blood donor.
What does my friend lose every time he gives blood? Nothing. What does he gain? Apart from the joy of knowing his blood may save a life, he participates in a special kind of blessing. Here is Apostle Paul’s exhortation: “But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.” (Hebrews 13:16).
Do You Want to Please God?
When we do good and give to bless others, we make God happy. Paul compares unselfish acts of kindness to a sacrifice that is pleasing before God. We please God because we are collaborating with Him to bless humanity. Giving is emulating God because He is the original giver, considering He is the creator of the universe.
When was the last time you made a sacrifice that was pleasing to God? What was the last time you elicited a smile on the face of a desperate person by helping them selflessly? What will you do today to bring a tear of joy into another person’s face by lifting a burden off their shoulder? Do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices, God is well pleased.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, remind me to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices You are well pleased.
