“I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go; I will guide thee with mine eye.”
Psalm 32:8 (KJV)
Have you ever found yourself needing directions from a stranger in a place you were not familiar with? How about asking for advice from others when you need to make an urgent but critical decision? There is a possibility that the person you relied on misled you, either deliberately or unintentionally. Probably, you paid dearly for the wrong counsel.
David was no stranger to trouble. There was a time when he was perpetually on the run. King Saul wanted to kill the future ruler of Israel. David needed to make quick, but wise, decisions. The book of Psalms demonstrates that David knew just who to rely on.
In our guiding scripture, David captures an important promise of God for people struggling with decision-making. Our Father promises that in the midst of confusion and trouble, He will personally ‘teach’ us the way we should go. He promises to ‘guide’ us with his all-seeing eye.
Whatever decisions you need to make today—personal, job-related, familial, parental, spiritual, or civil—Jesus is a prayer away. He will tell you, if you listen carefully, exactly what you should do. He is God, after all
If you find yourself in a dilemma today, pose and claim this promise to make your life productive and honorable to God. Pray for someone you know who is having difficulties making an important decision and that God will tell him or her exactly what to do.
Prayer
Father God, in whatever situations I find myself in today, amidst the confusion and cares of life, please remind me that you have promised to teach and guide me on the decisions I should make.
