Make Room for Blessings

Make this valley full of ditches…
2 Kings 3:16 (NKJV)

The kings of Israel, Judah, and Edom are on a military campaign to attack Moab. They decide to attack the enemy by passing through the Desert of Edom. Five days into the march, they run out of water. Both humans and animals are at risk of death.

Make this Valley Full of Ditches

The three monarchs realize that only a divine miracle can save the situation. After inquiring where they can get a prophet of Jehovah, they are directed to Elisha. The seer has a few choice words, especially from King Joram of Israel, who is the son of King Ahab and Queen Jezebel.

After consulting God, however, Elisha directs the kings, “Thus says the LORD: “Make this valley full of ditches.” For thus says the LORD: “You shall not see wind, nor shall you see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, so that you, your cattle, and your animals may drink.”” (2 Kings 3:16–17).

Are you Ready for Blessings?

Elisha is telling the kings, “You want water? Dig ditches. Worry not about how God will fill the trenches. Just obey without question.” According to verse 20, the following morning, God supplies the water, which fills the trenches, thus enabling the armies to prepare and overcome Moab.

God still operates in the same way. He wants us to participate in actualizing our prayers. Our work is to prepare for blessings by trusting and obeying Him. Humanly speaking, it is ridiculous to dig ditches in a desert and expect water to fill these trenches. On the other hand, spiritually speaking, whatever God tells us to do, we must do it, however abnormal.

Make Room for Blessings

Have you made room for blessings this year? Are you ready for heavenly goodies? Are you ready to trust God without question? Will you obey Him when He asks you to do the unthinkable? Will you trust Him when He leads you down paths you have never walked before?

Prayer
Almighty Father, I am making room for Your blessings. Increase my faith.
