Remember now, O LORD, I pray, how I have walked before You in truth and with a loyal heart, and have done what was good in Your sight.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.
2 Kings 20:3 (NKJV)
King Hezekiah is sick and at the point of death. To worsen the matter, Prophet Isaiah delivers a message from God that the king will succumb to the illness. Hezekiah is inconsolable. “Then he turned his face toward the wall and prayed to the LORD, saying, “Remember now, O LORD, I pray, how I have walked before You in truth and with a loyal heart, and have done what was good in Your sight.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.”” (2 Kings 20:2-3).
Remember Now…
In his moment of desperation, Hezekiah did something unusual. He reminded God how he had walked uprightly and with fidelity. Hezekiah had a portfolio of good works and was, in a way, pleading with God to allow him to live longer to continue with these good deeds.
Isaiah was barely out of the palace when God told him to go back and tell the king that God had heard his prayers. The Lord healed the king and gave him fifteen years of life. God had considered the good deeds of Hezekiah, hence the positive answer.
What will you remind God about?
If God were to answer your prayers based on how uprightly you have walked before Him, what would be the outcome? What specific instances of standing for God would you cite? What kind of records would God’s angels present on your behalf? How big is your treasure of good works in heaven? What will you remind God about when the right time comes?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, live in me and empower me to live for you. I want to amass a treasure of righteous deeds.
