He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.
Proverbs 16:32 (NKJV)
In ancient days, mighty warriors led their armies to war and came back victorious. They also defended their people and property from the enemy. For their exploits, these heroes ruled over their people, and their names were encrypted in history.
A Valiant Soldier
To qualify to be a mighty warrior, one must have exceptional wisdom, strategy, and strength. Moreover, such a fighter must overcome formidable foes. It is also important that the hero is not carried away by victory to the extent of becoming complacent.
Modern warriors exist, but their fundamental qualities remain the same. The good news is that you, too, can become a valiant soldier in the spiritual realm. Here is Solomon’s description of a warrior: “He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.” (Proverbs 16:32).
How to Become a Mighty Warrior
Anger is one of the toughest enemies a human being can encounter. The natural reaction to provocation is to hit back, either in speech or action. The mightiest military person can fail this test. That is why the real fighter is the one who can rule his spirit instead of retaliating. Not even the person who captures a city can measure up to the person who has self-control.
Are you a mighty warrior? How do you react under provocation? Do you pay evil for evil? Are you in control of your spirit? If you are not slow to anger, ask God to fill you with His Holy Spirit so that you may know how to rule over your emotions. Surrender fully to Jesus, and He will make you a valiant soldier of the cross.
Prayer
Holy Spirit, imbue my life so that I may have effective control over my thoughts and emotions.
