No More Trouble

Daily Devotional – Sunday, March 10, 2024
What do you conspire against the LORD? He will make an utter end of it. Affliction will not rise up a second time.
Nahum 1:9 (NKJV)

Yesterday was a chaotic day in my neighborhood. The students of a tertiary institution were rioting after a speeding vehicle ran over and killed a learner who was roller-skating. What followed were violent demonstrations, a load of tear gas, paralyzed transport, and the closure of businesses.

Affliction Will Not Rise Up Again

A friend called for the closure of the institution, allegedly because it added no value to the local community. As much as I did not agree with my friend’s sentiments, I appreciated that he longed for a community without trouble.

In Prophet Nahum’s time, the Assyrian superpower was full of violence, idolatry, and haughtiness, despite having repented a century earlier, following Prophet Jonah’s preaching. Therefore, God warned Assyrians: “What do you conspire against the LORD? He will put an utter end of it. Affliction will not rise up a second time.” (Nahum 1:9).

No More Trouble

A day was soon coming when the evil nation would pay a heavy price for its evil. When you consider all the conflict, wars, chaos, injustice, and impunity in our society, do you long for a day when all oppression can come to an end? Well, while we cannot experience permanent peace on earth, in the near future, we will.

According to John the Revelator, “And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:4). Yes, a day is coming when there will be no more trouble. How prepared are you to welcome Jesus back and enjoy that life?

Prayer
Almighty God, I long for the day when affliction will not arise a second time. Work on me and prepare me for that glorious time.
