Go into the Highways

Daily Devotional – Tuesday, March 12, 2024
Therefore, go into the highways, and as many as you find, invite to the wedding.
Matthew 22:9 (NKJV)

In the Parable of the Wedding Feast, there is an exclusive party. The king’s servants go out to invite invited guests to come and dine. The ungrateful invitees, however, reject the invitation and even kill those who invite them to the bash.

Go to the Street Corners

The king is furious. He tells his servants to “go into the highways, and as many as you find, invite to the wedding.” (Matthew 22:9). The exclusive event is now an open bash. Soon, the wedding hall will be full of people from the streets. The party must go on.

The king in this parable represents God. We are His servants. The Lord has opened the doors of heaven to all human beings. Salvation is not the preserve of a few people. Our task is to go out into the most unlikely of places and invite all to the kingdom of God.

Go into the Highways

It is at the crossroads where you will find drug addicts, gang members, petty thieves, and what society rejects. Unless you go after them in their habitats, you will not reach orphans, widows, minorities, depressed individuals, and people who have given up on life.

When was the last time you went on the highway? How many people have you invited into God’s kingdom? Worry not about those who reject the invitation. Your work is to tell people to believe in Jesus and inherit eternal life. Do not be selfish. Go onto the highway and invite others to the heavenly party.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, lead me to the highways of my life so that I may invite all and sundry into your kingdom.
