The Power of Unity

And the LORD said, “Indeed, the people are one, and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them.“
Genesis 11:6 (NKJV)

The disobedient people that lived soon after the flood can teach us a lesson on the power of unity. Moses narrates, “And the LORD said, “Indeed, the people are one, and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them.” (Genesis 11:6).

Effectiveness in Unanimity of Purpose

When people direct their efforts to a single purpose, whether good or bad, “nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them.” Equally, according to Jesus, “a house divided against itself will fall.” (Luke 11:17, NIV). This is true of friends, community groups, churches, learning institutions, and even nations.

Many of the challenges we face daily are solvable if we apply unity of purpose. If we could set aside our petty differences and become united as the body of Christ, the world would believe in Him (John 17:23). How many souls would have surrendered to Christ if Christians worked in unity?

The Power of Unity

Let us look for opportunities to strengthen unity among believers instead of emphasizing the differences. May we embrace forgiveness and reconciliation and focus on the most important responsibility Jesus has assigned to us: winning souls to the kingdom of God. Indeed, if, as believers, we tapped into the power of unity, no task would be too difficult for us.

Lord Jesus, show me how I can tap into the power of unity in temporal and spiritual matters.
