And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, “Oh…that Your hand would be with me.”
1 Chronicles 4:10 (NKJV)
What a prayer warrior Jabez was! It is no wonder that the writer of 1 Chronicles took a brief break from listing genealogies to tell us about this man who dared to make bold requests to God. Indeed, Jabez’s third petition reveals just how close he was to God.
Is God with You?
Jabez pleaded with God, “Oh…that Your hand would be with me.” (1 Chronicles 4:10). The hand of the Lord denotes His active presence in Jabez’s life. His greatest desire is that even as he enjoys God’s blessings, he will please the Giver of those blessings. In fact, no blessing can surpass knowing that God’s hand is always upon us.
When we know God’s hand is with us, we can be sure that He will lead us in the right direction. We will have peace of mind because our lives are aligned with His will. No decision will be too hard for us because we will only have to look ahead to see where Jesus is leading us.
Is God’s Hand with You?
Moreover, when the Lord’s hand is with us, we have nothing to fear. The whole army of heaven is fighting on our side. We also have the opportunity to present our problems to God directly and to have the assurance that He hears us and will answer us.
Is God’s hand with you? Are you enjoying the privileges of being in His presence and under His guidance and protection all the time? If not, join Jabez in pleading with the Almighty, “Oh…that Your hand would be with me.”
