Keep Walking

Daily Devotional – Monday, April 15, 2024
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil.

Psalms 23:4 (NKJV)

Popular, contemporary, feel-good, prosperity gospel teaches that God’s people will have everything going their way if they just believe. In contrast, David asserts that we will undergo difficulties, and when this happens, we must place our confidence in God and keep walking.

Don’t Stop

After affirming that God is His Shepherd and provider, David, assuming the role of a sheep, observes, “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil.” (Psalms 23:4). David knows from experience that God often allows His children to undergo trials and moments when He appears to hide His face.

Christians are not immune to illnesses, family disagreements and breakages, job losses, financial ruin, and the loss of loved ones. Moreover, like other human beings, we will suffer the effects of floods, droughts, famine, earthquakes, and other natural calamities. Our enemies will attack us, and fake friends will betray us.

Keep Walking

When these and other misfortunes occur, we should not fear, for God is right there with us, His sheep. As we walk through our valleys of the shadow of death, we may not see God, but He is with us, watching over us to make sure we don’t give up. We only fear when we look around and focus on our troubles instead of the presence of God.

The best we can do when our circumstances seem to move from bad to worse is to keep walking. The psalmist does not stop or give up when walking through trouble. When we know God is with us, we will not fear. We will continue with the journey of faith as we wait for God to change our situation. To quote a famous country music singer, “If you’re goin’ through hell, keep on going.”

Prayer
Almighty God, because you are with me, I will not fear the troubles around me. Indeed, I will keep walking until I win.
