How God Deals With Your Enemies

When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD will lift up a standard against him.
Isaiah 59:19 (NKJV)

In His intercessory prayer for His disciples, Jesus does not ask the Father to take us out of this world but to protect us from the evil one (John 17:15). In other words, Christ knows that we will face formidable enemies as believers. How then does God deal with our enemies?

He Will Lift Up a Standard

Through Prophet Isaiah, the Almighty gives us the answer. He states, “When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD will lift up a standard against him.” (Isaiah 59:19). Notice that it is not ‘if’ the enemy attacks but ‘when’ he does so. Isaiah lived in a time when God’s people were constantly under the threat of enemy nations.

Think of a sudden flood and how devastating its impact can be. It sweeps away buildings, vehicles, animals and people with vengeance. By the time it is over, there is loss of livelihood, death and despondency. Next, imagine having the ability to stop the flood from causing any harm by creating a gigantic and thick wall.

How God Deals With Your Enemies

That is what God does to His people when the devil and his agents attack. The Spirit of God shields us from the storms of spiritual attacks, sickness, accidents, family breakups, and other missiles that Satan throws at us. We need not fear because God is prepared to give us victory if we trust in Him.

Which floods are you dealing with today? What challenge is threatening to overwhelm you today? Don’t despair. The Holy Spirit will raise an impregnable barrier against all your troubles because that is how God deals with your enemies.
