Deborah stands out as one of the most effective leaders of Israel. She led Israel with intelligence and wisdom, serving as more than just a judge or prophetess. Deborah was a beacon of perseverance and strength in a time when men were considered de facto leaders. However, her strength came from her submission to God rather than from her own skills or capabilities.

Why Deborah Was an Effective Leader

Deborah was an effective boss. She advised her people and administered justice while sitting beneath a palm tree. More significantly, though, she had conversations with God in this space, asking for His counsel and insight. Deborah’s life demonstrated a strong faith in God’s sovereignty and her understanding of the significance of seeking His will in everything.

Deborah’s readiness to accept the role God had planned for her is among the most amazing things about her narrative. Deborah did not back down when Barak, the Israeli army’s commander, hesitated to send the soldiers into combat without her. Rather, she audaciously declared, “I will surely go with you.” (Judges 4:9). She demonstrated unwavering commitment to her calling.

The Secrets of Deborah’s Success

Examining Deborah’s life, let’s look inward at our own attitudes and hearts. Are we willing to put our faith in God’s wisdom and timing and give up our goals and plans? Do we possess the courage to take a risk in trust, even when the road ahead appears unclear? The secret of Deborah’s success was her unwavering faith in God. Follow her lead.
