Lessons on Faith in Simon Peter’s Life

And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.”

Few people in the New Testament are as well-known as the Apostle Peter. His life serves as an example of the highs and lows of faith as well as the ability of Christ’s grace to alter even the most imperfect of hearts. These are lessons that can be very beneficial to us as we journey through faith.

When Jesus Stepped In

On the night Jesus walks on water, Peter requests, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” (Matthew 14:28). Then, at the call of Christ, Peter defies gravity and walks on water, serving as an example of the strength of faith, the audacity of trust, and the readiness to venture into the unknown.

However, as Peter’s experience serves as a reminder, doubt and fear can still arise in the face of faith. Peter looks from the Savior to the storm raging around him as he approaches the Savior. His heart starts to race with fear as he starts to give way to the waves. Jesus, who is always kind and forgiving, then rescues the desperate disciple.

Lessons on Faith from Simon Peter’s Life

Similar to Peter, we will face challenges to our faith and moments of fear, but Christ never wavers. It is He who challenges us to leave the security of our comfort zones and venture out onto the seas of trust, confident that He will always be there to catch us if we stumble. May we have the bravery to put our confidence and trust in Jesus, just like Peter did.

Lord Jesus, help me learn from the highs and lows of Peter’s life, hence growing in faith.
