See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
Ephesians 5:15-16 (NKJV)
We all face the challenge of redeeming time in this fast-paced environment. Having a lot of duties can easily cause us to feel overburdened and lose focus of our goals. However, as Christians, we have a responsibility to manage the time that God has given us wisely.
In his epistle to the Ephesians, the apostle Paul advises us to “redeem the time.”. This exhortation is about coordinating our time with God’s plan and purpose for our lives, realizing that time is a valuable gift from God, and choosing to intentionally use each moment.
How to Make the Most of Every Opportunity
Redeeming time entails allowing God to have a place in our time management, which is crucial. Pray and read from the Bible first thing in the morning, asking God to guide you. Another useful time management strategy is to set goals. Seek God’s guidance in determining your areas of focus.
In addition, imitate God by resting on the Sabbath Day (Read Genesis 2:2–3). This weekly rest is a reminder that our value comes from our identity in Christ, not from how productive we are. Rest is also good for our physical and emotional well-being.
How to Redeem Time
Moreover, think about the ways you can benefit others around you with your time. Serving others is a meaningful way to show God’s love and make a difference, whether it is by volunteering, lending a sympathetic ear, or providing for someone in need.
In addition, if we are not careful, social media, emails, and never-ending notifications can take up all of our time. Recognize what diverts your attention and put tactics in place to reduce it. Fixing our gaze on Jesus keeps us concentrated on the things that really count. As God’s time, use these strategies to redeem time.
Prayer
Dear God, teach me how to redeem time.
