The Blessing of Fortitude

Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.
James 1:12 (NKJV)

It is the virtue of fortitude, or courage in the face of difficulty, that every Christian is exhorted to practice. We are able to withstand adversity, hold fast to our faith, and grow closer to Christ because of our fortitude.

The Benefits of Courage

James 1:12 teaches us the benefits of enduring hardship. Our difficulties serve a purpose; they are meant to try and fortify our faith. We show our love for God and our faith in His promises when we endure hardships. The crown of life is the ultimate prize for this steadfastness.

Job was a man of great faith who suffered extraordinarily but demonstrated the fortitude that results from a strong trust in God when he remained constant in his faith in the face of losing everything, including his family, fortune, and health. Finally, God brought Job back, blessing him even more richly than before.

The Blessing of Fortitude

We are obligated, like Job, to maintain our faith despite the ferocious storms of life all around us. Our dependence on God, rather than our own strength, is what gives us fortitude. We have the strength to face any adversity with a heart full of hope and trust when we rely on Him.

As we embrace faith-based fortitude, we glorify God and show that we have complete faith in His divine purpose. Let us go confidently, knowing that we can withstand and triumph over any adversity that confronts us in God, and enjoy the blessings of fortitude.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, increase my fortitude and the blessings thereof.
