Speak the Truth in Love

Instead of speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become, in every respect, the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.
Ephesians 4:15 (NKJV)

We are obligated to live as people of truth, as followers of Christ. Since God is the source of all truth, being truthful is fundamental to what it means to be a Christian. Speaking the truth, however, involves more than just being sincere. It all comes down to how we express that candor.

Communicate with Kindness

The apostle Paul exhorted the Ephesians: “speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ” (Ephesians 4:15). This balance is crucial for fostering growth and unity within the body of Christ.

Without love, the truth can be cruel and damaging. We are expected to edify, but it can also injure and alienate people. On the other hand, love without the truth can be weak and complacent, ignoring significant problems that must be faced. Truth and love, when combined, strengthen and uplift others, gently pointing them toward Christlikeness.

Speak the Truth in Love

In His interactions with people, Jesus spoke the truth with grace and compassion. He faced sin head-on, but he did so in a way that brought restoration and hope. Instead of criticism, his revealing the truth produced transformation and healing.

As you go about your day, speak the truth in love. Utilize your words to uplift, inspire, and serve, hence reflecting Christ’s love. Endeavour to create an atmosphere that is conducive to Christian maturity and growth by telling the truth in love.
