How to Tend and Keep God’s Garden

Daily Devotional – Tuesday, June 11, 2024
Then the LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it.
Genesis 2:15 (NKJV)

God placed Adam in Eden “to tend and keep it.” This is not just a call to physical labor but an invitation to stewardship. It reminds us of our larger duty to care for and safeguard God’s creation. Because everything we do and every choice we make has an effect on the earth, it is important that we manage our resources wisely.

How to Work and Take Care of ‘Eden’

Furthermore, we frequently see work as a menial chore or a means to an end. However, labor is an act of worship to God, an acknowledgment of His will. We respect God when we approach our work with a heart of service, whether it be in our homes, workplaces, or elsewhere.

Moreover, taking care of God’s creation is not a lonely task. God was with Adam, guiding and directing him. He did not abandon Adam to fend for himself. God is with us as we fulfil the obligations He has for us. In our endeavors to take care of the environment and the people in our communities, God is always with us.

How to Tend and Keep God’s Garden

We are blessed to work and care for the resources that God has bestowed upon us while we go about our everyday lives. Let us welcome each day with thankfulness, understanding that every chance to make a difference is a gift from God. Let love, excellence, and a desire to reflect His glory be the hallmarks of our work.

Prayer
Thank You, Heavenly Father, for giving us the responsibility to tend and keep the earth.
