Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
Revelation 3:20 (NKJV)
Picture a friend dropping by your house, knocking on the door and waiting to be let inside. The friend waits for you to open the door rather than pushing their way in. Jesus comes to us in this way, according to Revelation 3:20. He waits for us to ask Him into our lives because He respects our right to free will.
Do You Hear His Knock?
Jesus gently yet persistently knocks. It stands for His unwavering desire to be involved in our lives. How often, in the middle of our activity and diversions, do we hear His knock? Eating together represented solidarity, comradeship, and trust in prehistoric societies. This is the kind of relationship that Jesus desires to have with us.
We welcome Jesus into every area of our lives when we open the door for Him. He wants to live permanently in our hearts; He doesn’t want to just visit us. Allowing Him in gives us access to His serenity, direction, and unwavering love.
Will You Open the Door?
Today, pause to consider the condition of your heart’s door. Is it shut, partially open, or completely open to Jesus? What worries or diversions might be keeping you from truly letting Him in? Spend some time in prayer, asking Jesus to give you the strength to fully open the door and to help you know when He is knocking.
Prayer
Dear God, I am opening the door of my heart to you. Come and live forever in me.
