What Determines Your Salvation?

Daily Devotional – Saturday, July 13, 2024
But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us…
Titus 3:4-5 (NKJV)

A powerful reminder of the nature of our redemption and the extent of God’s grace can be found in Titus 3:5. This verse perfectly captures the core of the gospel: we are saved solely by the grace of God, not via our own good works.

Not By Our Works of Righteousness

We frequently gauge our approval and value based on the things we do. We are tempted to think that our good deeds will determine how God regards us. Paul makes it clear that salvation is a gift from God, given to us because of his amazing mercy, rather than something we have to earn.

Fundamentally, mercy is the act of being shown love and compassion by someone who has every right to refuse it. In our situation, God shows us mercy in spite of our flaws and shortcomings. This crucial component of compassion is that it shifts our attention from our own shortcomings to God’s limitless grace.

What Determines Your Salvation?

We ought to live our lives differently when we realize that salvation is a gift of mercy. Knowing that God’s grace, rather than our own works, has rescued us should motivate us to live a life of thankfulness and humility.

When you begin to feel unworthy because of your weaknesses and failures, never forget that God’s boundless kindness, not your deeds, determines your salvation and worth. Let this knowledge mold your words, ideas, and actions so that you can always be grateful and show others His grace.

Prayer
Please enable us to understand that Your unending grace, not our own efforts, is what saves us.
