What Are You Waiting For?

I have swept away your offenses like a cloud, your sins like the morning mist. Return to me, for I have redeemed you.
Isaiah 44:22 (NIV)

What are you waiting for to return to God? We find a powerful illustration of God’s mercy and grace toward His people in Isaiah 44:22. The richness of God’s forgiveness and for those who turn to Him are powerfully portrayed by the imagery employed here.

Return Me

Picture a thick cloud, laden with your sins, regrets, and mistakes, looming over your head. It seemed unbeatable, looming large over your existence. However, God’s forgiveness is a whole eradication of guilt and shame, not simply a surface covering.

Moreover, Isaiah likens our transgressions to the mist of the morning, which dissipates over the day. God’s atoning love and sacrifice through Jesus Christ have the capacity to fully purify us, just as the sun’s warmth removes the mist. His grace cleanses every stain from us as we turn to Him in confession of sin, leaving us refreshed and pure.

What Are You Waiting For?

The verse concludes with a soothing and powerful call to return to God, “Return to me, for I have redeemed you.” God invites us to return to Him with confidence and hope, not to wallow in guilt or hopelessness. Through the death on the cross of His Son, He has already paid the price for our redemption.

As we consider this priceless promise, let us fully accept God’s call to come back to Him. At the foot of the cross, let us lay down our burdens of shame and guilt and welcome the freedom that comes from realizing we have been redeemed and pardoned. What are you waiting for to accept God’ grace and mercy?
