Hold Fast Without Wavering

Daily Devotional – Sunday, August 4, 2024
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.
Hebrews 10:23 (NKJV)

In the midst of life cares and the attendant promises, we often allow our goals and dreams to float away like an unmoored ship. However, Hebrews 10:23 exhorts us to hold fast without wavering, to the hope we profess, and put our faith in God’s promises.

Grasp Firmly to the Hope

To Christians, hope is more than just a longing or an ethereal emotion. It is a self-assured expectation based on God’s dependable nature. Our professed hope is based on the knowledge that God keeps His word, not on our own might or favorable circumstances.

The phrase “hold fast” conjures up an image of a firm grasp. Imagine a climber, determined to hang on tight despite the difficulties of the ascent, holding onto a rock face. In the same vein, we must have a firm grasp on God’s promises as we journey through faith.

Hold Fast Without Wavering

God’s faithfulness is not dependent on our circumstances or perfection. Its foundation is in His unchangeable nature. Our hope is based on the fact that He who promised is faithful. He keeps His promises, so we don’t have to worry when we go through hardships.

Think about the particular promises made by God that you might be holding onto during this time in your life. In what ways might you increase your faith in His faithfulness? Consider how you may actively hold fast without wavering, and spread this hope to those who might be experiencing difficulties.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, please enable us to cling steadfastly to the hope we have in You, even in the face of adversity and uncertainty in the future.
