Afflicted for a Purpose

Daily Devotional – Sunday, March 28, 2021

Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the LORD delivers him out of them all.

Psalms 34:19 (NKJV)

I recently heard the story of a faithful Christian whose house burned down while she was coming from church. She asked her friend, “Where was God when this was happening?”

You probably asked yourself the same or related questions. Why does God allow me to suffer? Will He eventually act to save me? When?

Job lost his property, children, and health when God allowed Satan to afflict him. When Satan’s experience failed, God restored to Job much more than he had lost. In Psalm 34:19, we read, “Many are the afflictions of the righteous...”

As long as we live in this sinful world, the Devil will attack us because we are God’s children. If you want to irritate a parent, hurt his or her children.

According to David, when you have gone through afflictions and you are refined as gold, “the LORD delivers you out of them all” (Psalm 34:19).

God will allow you to go through persecution, illnesses, rejection, loss of property, financial challenges, and many other afflictions. Like Joseph, Moses, David, Naomi, Jeremiah, Paul, and Jesus Himself, expect trials.

However, God promises to deliver you from all these tribulations. He will not allow you to go through any trial if He has not given you the strength to overcome it.

Whatever negative circumstances you are facing today, do not allow the devil to use them to plant doubt in your mind. Be patient. God is using the trials to cultivate His character in you. When He is done, He will deliver You.

Father, whenever I face trials, give me patience to wait for you to rescue me.
