I thank my God, making mention of you always in my prayers.
Philemon 1:4 (NKJV)
Life’s hustles sometimes minimize our capacity to stop and see the individuals in our immediate surroundings. However, in his epistle to Philemon, the apostle Paul provides us with a sobering reminder of the effectiveness of prayer and thanksgiving for the people God has placed in our lives.
I Thank God for You
Paul expresses a lovely habit of the Christian life in his words, “I thank my God, making mention of you always in my prayers.” This practice is the deliberate act of remembering others with thankfulness. It is a profound, sincere recognition of the manner in which other people affect our life rather than only a momentary idea or feeling.
Paul’s appreciation for Philemon goes beyond simple sentimentality. It has to do with using prayer to convey that thankfulness. By taking the time to express our gratitude to God for everyone who has impacted our lives, we are able to connect our hearts with His and acknowledge the blessings He has bestowed upon us via others.
I Mention You Always in My Prayers
Paul’s pledge to pray for Philemon reveals that prayer is a potent tool for building relationships with God and one another. By praying for others, we admit our reliance on God’s grace and direction and invite Him into their lives. It is an act of love that looks out for others’ progress and well-being in addition to our own.
Take a time to consider the individuals who have greatly influenced your life. Who has offered inspiration, encouragement, or support? How can you show them how much you appreciate them today? A little email, some words of support, or a thankfulness prayer could be a heartfelt way to express your gratitude.
Prayer
Thank you, Heavenly Father, for sending me those who inspire and uplift me. I thank you in prayer for them today. Give them and their loved ones your whole attention.
