Mightier than Hurricanes

The LORD on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, than the mighty waves of the sea.
Psalms 93:4 (NKJV)

Hurricane Milton was wreaking havoc and causing death and destruction in the United States at the time this devotional was written. Thankfully, the storm had begun to lessen, providing comfort to millions of people whose lives were in jeopardy.

Mightier than the Waves of the Sea

The images of roaring waters and smashing waves in our main text allude to the terrifying yet uplifting power of nature. The psalmist tells us that God is still in charge despite the terror that a hurricane may evoke.

The allegory of God and the elements of nature serves to emphasize God’s omnipotence. Whether our storms are personal issues, relationship problems, or the chaos of the outside world, we can find solace in the knowledge that God is stronger than any obstacle we face. His power acts in and through us. It is not merely a concept that exists in the distance.

Mightier than Hurricanes

Which waves in your life seem insurmountable? Which distresses cause you the most anxiety? In your prayers, bring these to God and acknowledge His power over your situation. Pray that God will step in and put an end to the trouble for those who are experiencing both literal and metaphorical storms.

Pause and give thanks to God for all the storms He has calmed on your behalf. Whenever you face problems, ask Him to strengthen your faith so that you will know that He is stronger than natural calamities and that He will see you through your current storms.

Thank You, Heavenly Father, for being stronger than any hurricane I may ever encounter.
