…Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.
1 Timothy 1:15 (NKJV)
Zacchaeus was a tax-collector, a hated professional those days. He was a certified thief and Public Enemy No. 1. Contrary to public and religious opinion, Jesus visited the outcast’s home and enjoyed a meal.
Matthew was tax collector, too. How could a publican be counted among the twelve apostles? Well, courtesy of Christ’s unusual decision, we have the Gospel according to Matthew today.
According to tradition, Mary Magdalene was the woman ‘caught in the act’ – the one Jesus saved from stoning. That we cannot ascertain, but we know Christ cast out seven demons from her. Her negative reputation notwithstanding, she was a special friend of Jesus.
Saul, who became Paul after meeting the resurrected Jesus, was another special buddy of the Lord. Aware of his unworthiness because of the ills he had committed against Christ’s followers, Paul had a confession:
“This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief” (1 Timothy 1:15).
Jesus is in the business of forgiving and transforming sinners. He unleashes the Holy Spirit, His Word, angels and human agents to pursue sinners wherever they are. He will use all means to win willing sinners back to God.
Today, if you are sorrowing over your sins and weaknesses, remember you have a Friend in Jesus. Feeling like the worst sinner? Do not forget you are a special buddy of the Lord. Listen to His voice, pleading with you to cast you burdens of sin on Him. Surrender to the one who considers you His special friend.
Thank you, Jesus, because I am your special friend.
Friendship is costly.
For God to make us his Friends he bought us with the blood.
What cost are you incurring for God?
I want to be a sure friend.
Amen, Pastor.
Amen.
Praise be to God, Brian. God loves the sinner but hates the sin. He wants us to cooperate with Him as He transforms us to reflect His character.
wonderful…..
Amen, Duke. God bless you for finding time to read and comment.
