Our Source of Enduring Help

Our help is in the name of the LORD, Who made heaven and earth.
Psalms 124:8 (NKJV)

David considers the days of Israel’s tremendous peril, when they were in danger from adversaries who wanted to kill them. In the absence of God’s assistance, the Israelites would have perished. Despite these difficulties, David remains optimistic. With unwavering faith, he turns to God and declares, “Our help is in the name of the Lord.”

Our help is in the LORD

This straightforward yet deep statement reminds us that our real assistance is in God’s name. Our salvation is not found in our own strength, discernment, or capacity to navigate through challenging circumstances. The Lord’s name is a symbol of His loyalty, strength, and character. We acknowledge that nothing is inaccessible to our Creator when we call on Him.

There are many difficulties in life, whether they be interpersonal disputes, personal hardships, or even worldly worries. At times, we could experience the same sense of being overwhelmed that David did when he composed this psalm. Just like David, however, we need to look to God, who is our assistance. He is active and always there to save us. He is neither aloof nor uncaring.

Our Source of Enduring Help

During difficult times, let us keep in mind that God’s assistance comes from what God has accomplished for us already, not from what we can do. The same God who created the globe and the sky, opened the Red Sea, and sacrificed the Son for us is now prepared to assist us. We may be confident that He is willing and able to deliver us, regardless of the challenge.

Prayer
Almighty God, because You created heaven and earth, encourage us to turn to You whenever we feel weak and powerless.
