Without Grumbling or Arguing

Daily Devotional – Saturday, December 7, 2024
Do everything without grumbling or arguing.
Philippians 2:14 (NIV)

The main text for today calls for obedience in both our deeds and the attitudes that go along with them. Following this counsel can be difficult in a world full of annoyances, frustrations, and unfulfilled expectations.

Whether at work, home, or even in the church, we frequently catch ourselves grumbling about our situation. However, the apostle Paul exhorts us to live in a way that represents Christ in both our actions and our manner of doing them.

Embrace Gratitude

It is easy to act out of duty or obligation, but our complaining betrays our inner annoyance. A common motivation for arguing is the need to establish our own authority or will. In both situations, we fall short of exhibiting the grace and humility of Christ.

Take a moment to examine your heart before reacting to a situation by complaining or arguing. What’s the main reason you’re frustrated? Do you currently rely on God or trust your own abilities?

Express thankfulness instead of grumbling. Even in the midst of difficult times, you can still find something to inspire thankfulness in you. Having gratitude changes our viewpoint and directs our attention away from our problems and toward God’s benevolence.

Without Grumbling or Arguing

Try to settle arguments amicably and humbly when they occur. Steer clear of the urge to debate just to be correct. Seek harmony and peace in Christ instead.

We show the world the heart of Christ when we carry out our duties without grumbling or complaining. Let us make an effort to live in a way that allows others to see Jesus’ light beaming brilliantly through us.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, pardon me for grumbling and complaining. Help me respond to Your goodness with a grateful heart.
